Hybrid energy storage systems

redT’s vanadium redox flow machines address the disadvantages of conventional batteries such as lithium-ion. A hybrid system combines the best of both technologies to serve complex energy needs.

Use non-degrading flow machines as a “workhorse” for all energy requirements.

Also use them for low power frequency and trading services. This protects and preserves the more delicate lithium batteries, which can be called on infrequently to provide a high power boost when required.

Pioneering a world-first…

redT are pioneers in this space. We have delivered the largest behind-the-meter energy storage system ever to be installed in Australia. The system has 900kWh of flow machine hybridised with a 120kW C1 lithium battery. It is the first of its type to be commissioned worldwide. 

 

Delivering the world’s largest hybrid system…

In April 2019, we announced our role in a consortium of companies delivering the Energy Superhub Oxford project which will deploy a 50MW flow / lithium hybrid energy storage system at the centre of a low carbon energy network in Oxford, UK. The project will integrate cutting-edge electric vehicle charging, energy storage systems, and low carbon heating, plus smart energy management technologies to support Oxford City Council’s journey to zero carbon.
